Leigh’s Speech Breakdown – 12’s Last Speech & 13’s First Word

Time to discuss a speech that I think is important to the fan community today and I think certain fans who don’t want a certain showrunner and actor won’t listen but here is my take on 12’s last speech.

12’s Last Speech

Oh, there it is, silly old universe. The more I save it, the more it needs saving. It’s a treadmill. Yes, yes, I know, they’ll get it all wrong without me. Well, I suppose one more lifetime won’t kill anyone. Well, except me. You wait a moment, Doctor! Let’s get it right. I’ve got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first: never be cruel, never be cowardly, and never, ever eat pears! Remember, hate is always foolish, and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. Oh, and you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway… except… except children. Children can hear it, sometimes, if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too, children can hear your name. But nobody else. Nobody else, ever. Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. Doctor… I let you go.

The first bit is “Oh, there it is, silly old universe. The more I save it, the more it needs saving. It’s a treadmill. Yes, yes, I know, they’ll get it all wrong without me. Well, I suppose one more lifetime won’t kill anyone. Well, except me.I think the first but is important as he is debating where to change or die as he is but remember, he is on his second regeneration cycle and his time is running out in his first body for this and he did originally accept in his previous body until Clara saved him and asked the Time Lord to give him a new set of regenerations which he does. Also the Master was used to stealing bodies in his first regeneration cycle which we see with Tremas and Bruce. Another example is that Ten regenerates after saying his controversial line, “I don’t want to go,” which makes him look selfish and only thinks about himself. Steven Moffat attempts to fix in Day of the Doctor as he isn’t happy with it either but is unsuccessful as its been done buy I think Moffat did his best and I like that about but he is better with his own Doctors regenerations. He attempts a bit of similar but better premise of what happened with 12 and has better reasons for it. A example of this and going back with my selected quote, he insults the universe as he is a grumpier version and he is in his second regeneration cycle with Moffat takes this advantage. But, when 12 says “One more lifetime won’t hurt,” the Doctor has decided to give another chance of life so decides to change.

”I’ve got a few things to say to you,” is him taking out loud so he next self can remember what they can take onboard to avoid them becoming the same as 12 which show 12 has fully been developed at the end from grumpy to kind old men.

”You mustn’t tell anyone your name,” which fans will always know we will never hear so 13 should do the same.

The quote “Children” is definitely used to affect as 12 as he often collapses in the pain whenever he talks about it but he only wants children to know his name as they are the future of course.

”Laugh Hard, Run Fast, Be Kind,”is his 3 main tips which 13 does follow and that is all he wants.

”Doctor, I let you go,” isn’t the best line for 12 as it doesn’t make sense but it’s better than what 10’s was as 12 has accepted but 10 didn’t & why did your do that T Davies, WHY WHAT WERE YOU PLAYING AT?

A little extra to share is 13’s first line. “Brilliant,” which I think describes her personality as she is happy to be there as we see in S11.
