Top 5: Classic Two Parters

Time to choose my top 5 favourite classic two parter story

5:
Attack of the Cyberman – 6th Doctor
A strong beginning to the 22nd Season. It centres around Peri and the Doctor trying to figure out a distress call which leads them into being forced by the Cybermen to take them to Telos where it’s revealed that Lytton is working with the native Cryons but is later killed whilst under Cyber Conversion whilst fighting it helping the Doctor. I just love Maurice Colbourne who plays Gustave Lytton who was in the previous series working for the Daleks. Cybermen are at their best and a simple invasion story.

4. The Sontaran Experiment  – 4th Doctor

This Is a funny episode with Astronauts from different countries from Galsec and Sarah Jane being menaced by a Sontarans by the name of Field Major Styre. This episode also introduced the Grand Marshall who is in charge of leading the  Sontaran battle fleet. This episode saw Tom Baker break his collarbone in filming a scene where the Doctor attempts to run from Styre and Terry Walsh who played Zake and is a Stunt Arranger stood in for scenes that Tom couldn’t do. Ian Marter showed his character’s action hero side as wanting to deal with Styre in a very hard way and is funny and is one my favourite stories with Harry Sullivan. Elizabeth Sladen impresses again with a fantastic performance, I am so happy and I just can’t stop laughing.

3. The Ultimate Foe – 6th Doctor

This rounds up the 23rd season nicely and sees one of the Master Who was played by Antony Ainley have a failed partnership with the returning character of Sabalom Glitz played by Tony Selby. Also, we learn the Valeyard’s identity and his defeat which is after revealed to be the Keeper of the Matrix. Why I love about the Valeyard is that we see him do a Master and dress up as Mr Chambers/Popplewick. I just love the fact that it’s like Heaven Sent with the Matrix being a hell/torture chamber. A funny and brilliant episode which saw the final appearance of Colin Baker.

2. The Rescue – 1st Doctor

This episode is the first episode after Susan’s departure and with Maureen O Brien as Vicki. Vicki is cute in this one and I just love her relationship with the team even though it’s strained as she wants to be rescued. Ian continues his love for Barbara and that is why those two deserve each other. First Doctor finally develops and shows his vulnerable side and it’s what we need but luckily the old man trusts his companions and in the end is able to warm to Vicki and allow her to join them.

1. The edge of destruction – 1st Doctor

The only episode in history to have the main characters in it. I just love the fact that we see the Doctor change after showing his alien side and begin to love humans just like Susan’s alien sideby threatening her teachers. Barbara is the star as we see her stand up to the Doctor and work out what the TARDIS was telling them. Love Ian in this as I cannot stop laughing at his comic timings. Perfect episode which shows the team should work.
