The Demons of Punjab Review

Demons of Punjab is the second Historical of Series 11. Chibnall has tried and actually done something right this series by not doing themselves and allowing guest writers do it instead and it’s working quite well. After Malorie Blackman’s success, it was up to Vinay Patel and he did not disappoint. He took on another risky topic which people will complain about but I am like, this is good!

I am kind of mixed on Yasmin Khan I’m this episode. The first half I got a bit angry about due to her being behaving like a kid and the Doctor was right but luckily didn’t do a 9 because she never did anything in the end and I don’t like it when a companion wants to change time like in Father’s Day where I complain about Rose a lot and should have had a better role. The last half was when Yaz made herself a great compassionate women, despite her differences and know that not doing anything allowed her to exist and she definitely was upset at the end when Prem was killed his brother’s friend. Mandip Gill brought the house down at the end when she is in a scene with Leena Dhingra showed that she understands what happened to her Grandma without knowing she was there and there is a moment where they bond and it’s so beautiful.

I felt emotional in the finale, 10 minutes of the episode which really moved me and it moves me thinking about whilst writing this review. It’s a sad scene but the best thing knowing us that nothing was changed in the last which makes us more memorable as I am not a fan of episode where a lead makes me mad and angry with them but not this time. Thank you Vinay Patel!

Jodie Whittaker once again is stealing the show. She has never made a since mistake and had a a bad episode like Matt Smith and Christopher Eccleston at this point in their first series. Vinay writes her very well but I do think she does need a darker moment later in her first series or her tenure to make her standout because that could make the difference of her being my favourite Doctor but with Peter Capaldi already has some great scenes that place him ahead at the moment. She has a speech when she marries Umbreen and Prem and it’s awesome and it shows that Jodie is probably greatest actors to play the Doctor at this moment along with Peter.

The only character that failed to impress me was Prem’s brother and he just felt so annoying and just kind of irritates me but did his job.

I love this series so much and I like the episode and it felt very Historically but there is room for improvement and with 4 episodes to go, I have doubts that 10 episodes isn’t enough and am wanting to see the new gang have another series to improve and develop as it worked for Smith, Gillan,Darvill, Capaldi and Coleman before but it could work for TEAM TARDIS as I can see potential in this team to do well. I hope Joy Wilkinson continues the Historical success in The Witchfinders and this is definitely the series for Historicals and especially for a person who doesn’t praise Historicals enough who is finally appreciating it

Score: 8/10
